Windows 7 Operating System End of Life

BD communicates with our customers about cybersecurity vulnerabilities to help healthcare providers manage potential risks through awareness and guidance.

This notification provides product security information and recommendations related to a security vulnerability found within specified versions of Microsoft’s decision to end support for the Windows 7 Operating System. The contents of this notification will be disclosed publicly on the BD Product Security website (http://www.bd.com/productsecurity) and is voluntarily reported by BD to Information Sharing and Analysis Organizations (ISAOs) where BD participates, including the Industrial Control Systems Cyber Emergency Response Team (ICS-CERT) and the Health Information Sharing and Analysis Center (H-ISAC). Microsoft will end support for Windows 7 Operating System (OS) after January 14, 2020 and for Windows Embedded Standard 7 Service Pack 1 on October 13, 2020. As a result, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or support for devices running Windows 7. (1).

Mitigations & Compensating Controls

BEGIN UPDATE A: Oct 19, 2023

Effective October 10, 2023, Microsoft® ended technology support for Windows® Embedded Standard 7 (“Windows 7”). This means all devices operating on Windows 7 will no longer receive the support necessary from Microsoft to provide the latest security protections.

Response

BD is expected to upgrade specified impacted products to a Windows 10 OS. BD may elect to provide extended support beyond the commercial end of support date originally provided by Microsoft, or end support for selected BD offerings due to their legacy components.

Timeline expectations will be provided to each customer by their appropriate representative.
