Luke Pollard MP hails BP Plymouth as a Jewel in the City’s Manufacturing Crown
In December, BD had the honour of welcoming Plymouth MP, Luke Pollard to its state-of-the-art facility.
Mr. Pollard toured the Plymouth facility observing advanced manufacturing processes that produce BD Vacutainer® tubes so that 82 patients every second can have their blood samples taken and praised BD Plymouth for their contributions to the local economy and to UK and global healthcare providers. The state-of-the-art 100,000 m² facility, which operates 24/7, has been a significant employer in the region for over 45 years, now employing nearly 800 people. Producing over 3.1 billion medical devices annually, including 2.7 billion BD Vacutainer® blood collection tubes used in the UK and worldwide. BD Plymouth is one of the largest manufacturing plants in the area, generating £59 million annually for the national economy, including £14 million directly into the city.
