Product Donation Program

During fiscal year 2011, BD donated more than $8.4 million in product to strategic partnerships, medical missions, community outreach programs and disaster relief efforts.

BD's product donation program reflects the Company's diverse portfolio of products and services. We coordinate with international relief agencies in an effort to efficiently allocate our resources. Among these are AmeriCares, Catholic Medical Mission Board, Direct Relief International, Heart to Heart International, IMA World Health, MAP International, Medical Teams International, National Cancer Coalition and Project HOPE.

In addition, BD is a member of Partnership for Quality Medical Donations (PQMD), a nonprofit alliance of private voluntary organizations and medical product manufacturers dedicated to raising standards of medical donations to meet the needs of underserved populations and disaster victims around the world.

Prepositioning Product
BD routinely provide provides product to its long-standing partners for ongoing programs and disaster relief. Having product readily available in the case of a disaster is key to allowing our partners to respond quickly and effectively.

Ready Relief Boxes: Medical Aid that is Ready to Go
As part of BD's Product Donation Program, BD is supporting the Heart to Heart International's Ready Relief Box program, which provides international medical teams with essential medicines, instruments and supplies. The Ready Relief Box Program has been highly successful since BD became the launch partner for the program in early 2007. The Ready Relief Box is equipped with enough product to treat up to 400 ? 500 patients and is valued at $7,500. The box, "a portable pharmacy" consists of product from BD and other medical device and pharmaceutical companies.

Heart to Heart provides boxes to the following:

  • Medical teams traveling internationally to perform humanitarian outreach activities
  • Clinics and hospitals located overseas
  • U.S. healthcare outreach organizations
  • U.S. medical research organizations

Boxes have been used for medical missions and for disaster relief efforts in the following countries:

Costa Rica
Sri Lanka

Dominican Republic
