BD offers innovative solutions to improve visual
outcomes in refractive surgery.
The success of refractive surgery techniques has increased the demand for the procedure. Because ophthalmic surgeons are performing more and more refractive procedures, products that allow surgeons to be more cost effective and save time during procedures are warranted.
The BD Visitec™ Dual Refractive Drape offers surgeons the opportunity to use one drape for either single-eye or bilateral LASIK procedures. The drape is versatile and can be used 16 different ways to accommodating the different styles and preferences of the surgeon. With the BD Visitec Dual Refractive Drape, the surgeon can choose to use minimal draping coverage on a patient or maximal coverage -- from head to nose, ear to ear.
The drape was not only designed for more efficient procedures but also for patient comfort. The drape is constructed of a soft, lightweight material and is positioned on the patient to leave the bottom of the nose and mouth uncovered. The adhesive liner is tented so the patient can blink the non-surgical eye, while simultaneously serving as a cover for the non-surgical eye. "The fact that the inferior portion of the drape is short, enables the patient to breathe comfortably despite having full coverage of the operative field." claims Jonathon Davidorf, M.D., who has a private practice in West Hills, California.
The BD Visitec™ Dual Refractive Drape is sold 10 drapes per box. The overall size is 40 cm x 24.75 cm (16 in x 9 3/4 in), and the drape has two apertures, 2.5 cm x 3.75 cm (1 in x 1 1/2 in). There are two perforations that allow the surgeon to modify the overall size of the drape to the specific draping needs of the LASIK procedure. Dr. Davidorf notes that: "The aperture of the drape is well suited to the size of most eyes. It fits nicely across the lid margins enabling minimum drape overhang into the operative field, and maximum coverage of the eyelids. The perforations in the drape enable me to place the inferior and superior portions of the drape independently, or in a single maneuver if I desire not to use the perforations. In other drapes that I have seen, the perforations come apart when the plastic backing over the sticky portion of the drape is removed. This is not the case with the BD Dual Refractive Drape."
