In the January 2003 issue of Laboratory Medicine, Jeffry B. Lawrence, MD, vice president of Medical and Scientific Affairs for BD Clinical Laboratory Solutions, authored an article titled, "Preanalytical Variables in the Coagulation Laboratory."

Dr. Lawrence has written numerous articles on various topics regarding the preanalytical phase and the preanalytical variables effecting coagulation results. After reading this article, the reader should understand how errors occur in the preanalytical phase of testing, and how efforts can be made to correct these errors.
